Rolo - Slimmer of the Month

Rolo is a gorgeous 7 year old collie x spaniel that loves his food. Over the years Rolo’s weight went up and up despite his owners trying their best to reduce his in take and increase his exercise. Rolo’s waistline slowly but surely submerged. When he was brought in for routine vaccination in June 2009 the vet was anxious and worried over his weight gain.

Rolo now weighed in at  40kg, almost 15kg overweight. This is equivalent to a normal

man weighing well over 20 stone.

We recommended reducing diet called Hills R/D which contains all the necessary nutrients but is very low in calories, and a drug called

 

Slentrol, a liquid medication that traps fat in the gut and prevents the body absorbing and using it. We also discussed the vital aspect of daily or twice daily exercise, if possible off the lead, as dogs take much more exercise this way.

In Rolo’s case, the “wee extra’s” were of such concern that the vet wrote a notice to be put on the fridge, “No Titbits at all” 6 weeks later after a great effort at home Rolo had lost an amazing 5.5kg, and by September a further 1kg. By June of this year Rolo was down 31kg, taking daily exercise, down a collar size, feeling great and able to jump up on the wall at home, which he was never able to do before.
