Angela Hawkes Head Nurse Cedar Grove Vets

Angela Hawkes Head Nurse QVN
Registered and Qualified Head Veterinary Nurse

I have been Head Nurse at Cedar Grove Veterinary Clinic since 2001.

I attended Myerscough College in Preston and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1995.

I am very proud of our nursing team consisting of 6 qualified nurses and 4 assistant trainee nurses. As well as a high standard of technical nursing capabilities I feel as a nurse it is equally important to provide a high level of comfort and care for pets while away from their loved ones and their homes.

I like to think that the in-patients at the clinic should be treated, as we would like our own pets to be treated. Therefore I can assure you that the utmost of care is taken of your pet while hospitalised.

I have a genuine interest in expanding my knowledge and continually attend courses relevant to veterinary nursing and my role at Cedar Grove.

I am also a qualified assessor, which means that I can assess and approve our trainees completing their portfolio for nursing exams.

My career as a veterinary nurse is one that requires dedication and provides great rewards.

Some of the many tasks carried out include:
• Radiography • Blood sample collection
• Laboratory • Preparation of patients for
• Anaesthesia theatre
• Dentistry
• Tuition to Trainee’s
• In patient Care
• Fluid Therapy

Registered and Qualified Senior Veterinary Nurse

I joined Cedar Grove almost 10 years ago as a trainee nurse, completed my training and I am now a senior member of the qualified veterinary nursing team.

My routine varies day to day from patient care, medicating and treating in-patients, monitoring anaesthetics in theatre, radiology, laboratory work and caring for post-operative patients. Along with answering the telephones, working in reception and helping clients.

Within each working day I also help the trainee veterinary nurses in both practical and theoretical learning. I enjoy my work immensely and have developed considerable knowledge over the years.

I started working at Cedar Grove as a trainee veterinary nurse in July 2002. I attended Myerscough College in Preston for 2 years where I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2004. Since I started here I have never looked back.

In 2007 I completed a City and Guilds qualification in veterinary nursing of Exotic Species and Wildlife. I have a keen interest in small furries (i.e. Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters etc) and I run an advice clinic here at the practice.

For any advice, questions or queries you may have please do not hesitate to phone me at the clinic, and I am more than happy to help.

I love working here and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t take my pets anywhere else as the quality of service is excellent…..
